Phraim

The Swiss-Austrian quartet was founded in 2016 by Nina Reiter, Marc Mezgolits and Peter Primus Frosch out of a desire to break new musical ground. After three highly acclaimed albums (2018 “/fɹeɪm/”, 2020 “Tides”, 2022 “Hysteria”) and several line-up changes, the core trio has now been joined by guitarist Mareille Merck. The collective sees itself as a working band in which all band members contribute compositions and the music is developed together.
The result is contemporary jazz that is rich in contrast and changeable, which cannot be pigeonholed and yet remains true to the band’s sound despite its versatility. Atmospheric improvisations, self-confident interplay or fragile interludes are no contradiction when four confident musical personalities pull together to create a sophisticated sound spectrum that is as varied as it is profound.
„Phraim offers a distinctive sound that forges new directions in modern jazz. Its strength is enhanced by each player’s idiosyncratic talent.“ (Geannine Reid, All About Jazz)
“Together, the four musicians work as a cohesive unit, with an ebb and flow to their interactions that develop the distinctive compositions organically and hold the listener’s attention.” (Mel Minter)
